A voice changer processes your microphone before OBS. Compatible apps can use ControlPlay Virtual Mic, but test each separately.
Voice changer, soundboard or TTS?
Choose the right tool:
- Voice changer. Changes your voice while you speak.
- Soundboard. Plays prepared files. See the Twitch sound alerts guide.
- TTS. Turns text into speech. See the Twitch TTS guide.
ControlPlay has Clean Mic plus eight viewer-triggered effects: Robot, Demon, Helium, Radio, Megaphone, Auto-Sing, Censor Beep and Mute. Timed effects return to Clean Mic. Where available, start from a built-in preset and fine-tune pitch, intensity, pre-gain, EQ or other visible controls. Changes persist; you can also mark favorites. It is free on 64-bit Windows 10 version 2004 or later and Windows 11, with no USB device.
Set the microphone path in Windows
The signal path is:
Physical microphone → ControlPlay processing → ControlPlay Virtual Mic → each configured app
Test the physical microphone under Windows Settings → System → Sound → Input, then check that ControlPlay receives it. Apps needing the effect must select ControlPlay Virtual Mic. If missing, enable microphone and desktop-app access under Privacy & security → Microphone. On Windows 10, use Settings → Privacy → Microphone.
Route the changed voice to OBS, Discord and game chat
- OBS. Add Audio Input Capture with ControlPlay Virtual Mic. If it is also active under Settings → Audio, disable that copy. Capturing it twice doubles the voice. Mute the physical mic unless you need its clean signal.
- Discord. Under User Settings → Voice & Video, select the virtual Input Device and run Mic Test. If audio clips, test without noise suppression or automatic processing.
- Game voice chat. Select the virtual microphone in the game. If there is no selector, set it as the Windows input. Support depends on the game and setup.
If only you hear playback, check monitoring. If everyone hears two voices, check duplicate capture paths.
Configure viewer-triggered effects
ControlPlay voice effects. Viewers use available, non-transferable Coins with no monetary value for enabled effects. Eligible Affiliate or Partner channels can also offer a permitted, Extension-defined on-stream effect as a direct Bits interaction confirmed through Twitch. A Coin package is separate and credits Coins after Twitch confirmation; it cannot bypass restricted Bits experiences. Do not offer direct Bits for effects sent to Discord or game chat because Twitch prohibits Bits for VOIP-related Extension features. See the Twitch monetization guide.
Fine-tune two different effects, record them in OBS and keep speech understandable. Then set the viewer controls:
- Required amount and cooldown per effect. Use a higher amount or longer cooldown for disruptive effects.
- Optional global cooldown. Spaces out triggers and prevents timed effects from overlapping.
- DND mode. Blocks an effect unless you mark it Active in DND mode.
- Clean Mic and new triggers. Clean Mic ends the current effect. To block new voice effects, turn viewer access off or enable DND with every effect inactive in DND.
If the optional Channel Points beta is available, up to three rewards can convert channel redemptions into Coins at your rate. The viewer gets Coins first, then selects an enabled effect. This creates no revenue or 80/20 allocation. See the Channel Points without Affiliate guide.
Test the Extension and voice-chat routing
Activate the configured ControlPlay Extension in a Panel slot and use a second account. Verify the Coin route. With voice-chat routing off, an eligible Affiliate or Partner channel can also test Twitch's confirmation for a predefined direct Bits interaction.
Record Clean Mic and each enabled effect in OBS. Test Discord and each game separately. Warn call participants before routing effects to them. For clear communication, use Clean Mic, enable DND and leave every effect inactive in DND.
Voice changer not working? Check these items
| Symptom | What to check |

| OBS hears the normal voice | Select the virtual microphone and mute the physical source. |
| Stream or recording has two voices | Remove one route capturing the same audio. Check global and scene sources, then the physical and virtual microphones. |
| Only you hear your voice twice | Disable unwanted monitoring in OBS, ControlPlay or another voice app. |
| Virtual microphone is missing or silent | Run the client, test the device in Windows and check desktop-app microphone access. |
| Discord hears no effect | Select the virtual input, run Mic Test and test without noise suppression. |
| The game hears no effect | Check the game or Windows input. Support depends on the game and setup. |
| Viewers cannot trigger an effect | Check the Panel slot, visibility, available Coins, Bits eligibility and confirmation, cooldown and DND rule. |

Set up ControlPlay
- Create a ControlPlay account, connect your Twitch account and install the Windows client.
- Test the physical microphone and ControlPlay Virtual Mic in Windows.
- Choose two effects, apply a preset where available, fine-tune it and set the required amount, duration and cooldown.
- Activate the Extension in a Panel slot and test the Coin route from a second account. With voice-chat routing off, test the Twitch-confirmed direct Bits route if eligible.
- Record the result in OBS, test Discord and game chat separately, then go live.
