Since May 13, 2026, eligible streamers worldwide can enable Channel Points without Affiliate status after completing Twitch's monetization onboarding. This guide covers the setup and the most common reasons Channel Points do not appear.
Do you need Twitch Affiliate for Channel Points?
No. Accept the Monetized Streamer Agreement and complete creator onboarding. An Affiliate invitation alone does not activate Channel Points, and Twitch may need up to 24 hours to show the feature.
Once onboarding is complete, Bits and Cheering outside Extensions, subscriptions, emotes, badges, and Channel Points are available even without Affiliate or Partner status. Bits in Extensions and payouts still require Affiliate or Partner status. If you have neither status, you cannot receive a payout. If Spendable Balance is available on your account and you enroll, you can use that balance for eligible purchases on Twitch. The Twitch monetization guide explains those differences in detail.
Complete the monetization onboarding
- Open Creator Dashboard, then go to Monetization → Setup.
- Complete Set Up Tools with your legal full name, email address and country of residence. Accept the Monetized Streamer Agreement. A business name is optional.
- If you are between 13 and 17, a parent or legal guardian must accept the agreement for you and enter their legal name.
- Check that Creator Dashboard marks this first step as complete. Spendable Balance enrollment is optional and not required for Channel Points.
Twitch allows monetization features on up to five accounts per person. If you exceed that limit, Twitch removes the features from the least active accounts. Partner accounts do not count toward the five-account limit.
Turn on Channel Points and create rewards
Open Creator Dashboard → Viewer Rewards → Channel Points, turn on Enable Channel Points, then choose the name and icon viewers see in chat.
Twitch allows up to 50 rewards. Custom rewards can have a cooldown from one minute to seven days plus limits per stream and per viewer. Start with a few you can manage live. The Channel Points ideas guide covers examples and point costs.
Test with a second Twitch account. Check that the icon appears in chat, the reward opens and a test redemption reaches your Activity Feed.
Channel Points not showing? Check these items

Connect Channel Points to ControlPlay
Twitch already lets you use Channel Points for highlighted messages, temporary emote access and custom rewards. The optional ControlPlay beta adds a separate route: a reward credits Coins before the viewer chooses an enabled action.
ControlPlay beta. If the optional Channel Points integration is available on your account, you can create up to three rewards that convert Channel Points into Coins. For each reward, set the required Channel Points and the conversion ratio. ControlPlay calculates the credited Coins automatically and enforces its minimum values. Coins are non-transferable, have no monetary value, and work only with actions you enable in ControlPlay. This route creates no revenue and no 80/20 allocation.
Create the reward in the ControlPlay Streamer Hub. Enter the required Channel Points and conversion ratio, check the calculated Coins, then save it. Manage the reward in the Streamer Hub. Renaming, deleting or changing it directly on Twitch can invalidate later redemptions.
The reward itself triggers no sound or TTS message. It adds Coins to the viewer's ControlPlay balance, then the viewer uses them for an enabled action. The Channel Points TTS guide shows the setup and test.
What Affiliate status still changes
Affiliate status makes you eligible for payouts and Bits in Extensions. To qualify, complete all four requirements within one 30-day period: stream for 4 hours across 4 different days, average at least 3 concurrent viewers on 4 days, and reach 25 followers. Twitch sends an invitation after all four requirements are complete, although the dashboard can take time to update.
Start with one test reward
Complete Twitch onboarding, allow up to 24 hours, and test one reward with a second account. To try ControlPlay, create an account, install the Windows desktop client, add the Twitch Extension, and assign it to an active Extension slot. If the optional beta is enabled, create one conversion reward in the Streamer Hub. Go live, redeem it from the second account, and check that the Coins arrive before choosing an action.
