Twitch Extensions are not browser extensions

A Twitch Extension is a web app you activate in a channel slot from Creator Dashboard. It appears below the video or inside the player, and viewers open it on your channel.

BetterTTV, FrankerFaceZ and 7TV are browser extensions installed by individual viewers and use no Twitch slots.

How the six slots and mobile support work

Twitch offers three Panel, one Overlay and two Component slots. Panels stay active offline; Overlays sit over live video; viewers can hide Components.

Install it under My Extensions, finish required setup, activate it and assign a compatible slot. Mobile-ready Extensions can appear in Twitch's iOS and Android apps without another slot; console and TV apps do not support them.

Crowd Control pairs an Extension with a desktop app and effects for supported games. Its separate Disrupts add overlays, puzzles, sounds and keyboard or mouse control. Check its current catalog first.

Best Twitch Extensions for live voice effects

Voicemod Live uses a Panel or Component slot and needs Voicemod V3 routed through OBS. You choose filters and duration first. On eligible Affiliate or Partner channels, viewers confirm the required Bits amount through Twitch for an Extension-defined on-stream filter.

ControlPlay includes Clean Mic and eight viewer-triggerable effects. You can fine-tune them, use presets where available, set cooldowns, turn Viewer Access off and choose which effects remain active during DND. Check eligibility, viewer access and setup

Any streamer can install public Extensions; providers may charge for broadcaster features. After monetization onboarding, general Bits and Cheering, subscriptions, Channel Points, emotes and badges can be available without Affiliate or Partner status. Bits in Extensions and payouts remain limited to eligible Affiliate or Partner channels; the former must be enabled.

ControlPlay has three routes. Viewers use non-transferable Coins with no monetary value. An optional beta converts up to three channel-specific Channel Points rewards into Coins at your rate, creating no revenue or 80/20 allocation. On eligible Affiliate or Partner channels, viewers can instead confirm through Twitch a permitted, Extension-defined direct Bits interaction or Coin package. Packages credit Coins and cannot bypass direct-Bits restrictions.

Under Twitch's current program, an eligible Affiliate or Partner generally receives 80% of one US cent per Bit used, and ControlPlay receives the remaining 20% of one US cent as the Extension developer. Twitch can change or end the program. Direct Bits never apply to free-form TTS, a requested specific musical track or audiovisual work, or voice-chat output.

If activation fails, finish setup and check its slot. An Overlay appears only while live. Test with a second logged-in Twitch account and, when supported, mobile.

Which Twitch Extension should a new streamer try first?

Configure one clear viewer action, assign its slot and make a local OBS recording. Keep it only if viewers can find it and you can control its output.
