How to Promote ControlPlay on Your Twitch Stream

Most viewers will not know what the ControlPlay logo does. Make it visible in the player and repeat one instruction in your title, tag and chat. See the interactive streaming guide.

Why viewers need a clear ControlPlay introduction

Explain where to open the menu, which actions you enabled and what to do next. Use the same wording in your title, command, timer and clip.

Set ControlPlay as Overlay 1

Open Creator Dashboard → Extensions → My Extensions. Find ControlPlay, choose Activate, then assign Overlay 1. Twitch provides one Overlay slot, visible over the video only while you are live.

Use Overlay 1 for viewer onboarding. It puts ControlPlay's animated purple controller inside the live video. A Component is also interactive, but it does not provide the same animated entry point. Plan other slots with the Twitch Extensions comparison.

Test while live, because the Overlay is not visible offline. Installing it without a slot is not enough.

Show desktop and mobile viewers where to open it

On desktop, the purple controller starts near the lower-right corner. If it slides partly out of view, move the pointer over the video. Click to open the menu. Drag it to a corner, where its position is saved when browser storage is available.

On mobile, there is no floating controller. Tap the ControlPlay icon near the player, usually between video and chat, to open the action view. Twitch can change this layout. Console and TV apps do not support Extensions.

Explain the action tabs and how viewers trigger actions

Depending on your setup and client version, viewers can see Actions, Aim, Overlays, Sounds, Ghost Voice, Text-to-Speech, Stickers and Cheered. Empty categories stay hidden, and the tab bar appears only with two or more categories. The viewer-control guide explains Game Actions.

Viewers need no separate ControlPlay account. On their first attempt, Twitch may ask them to share their Twitch identity. Coins are non-transferable and have no monetary value. Up to three optional beta rewards can convert your channel's Channel Points into Coins at your rate, with no revenue and no 80/20 allocation.

After monetization onboarding, general Cheering, subscriptions, Channel Points, emotes and badges can be available without Affiliate or Partner status. Bits in Extensions remain limited to eligible Affiliate or Partner channels and must be enabled there; payouts also require that status. On those channels, viewers confirm through Twitch either a permitted, Extension-defined direct Bits interaction or a selected Coin package. After confirmation, package Coins are credited to that viewer's wallet. Packages cannot bypass direct-Bits restrictions. Direct Bits never apply to free-form TTS, requested music or audiovisual works, or voice-chat output. See the Twitch monetization guide.

Add !ControlPlay to your stream title and use the ControlPlay tag

Keep the stream's main promise readable, then add the command:

[Game or challenge] | Viewers choose actions with !ControlPlay

!ControlPlay is a visible prompt, not a clickable action.

In Stream Manager → Edit Stream Info, add the custom tag ControlPlay. Viewers can search, click and filter Twitch tags. This is another path for people looking for ControlPlay streams, not a guarantee of more viewers or a better ranking.

Create a !ControlPlay chatbot command

Custom ! commands come from your chatbot, not Twitch's built-in slash commands. Add this response:

ControlPlay lets you trigger the actions enabled for this stream. Desktop: move your mouse over the video and click the purple controller. Mobile: tap the ControlPlay icon near the player. Choose an available tab and action, then follow the prompt. Quick guide: YOUR_CLIP_URL

Replace the placeholder with your clip and keep the response short.

Add a chat timer and record an explainer clip

Use a timer as a reminder, not an advertisement. Start with 25 to 30 minutes. If your bot supports it, require minimum chat activity:

Record a 20 to 60-second clip showing the controller, dragging, menu, tabs, one action and its result. Mention the mobile icon and update the clip after major changes.

Test the complete viewer path before going live

Use a second logged-in Twitch account while your channel is live:

The title includes !ControlPlay and the ControlPlay tag is active.
Moving the pointer over the desktop player reveals the controller.
Clicking it opens the current action menu and shows only enabled categories.
The mobile Twitch app opens ControlPlay from its Extension icon.
!ControlPlay returns the right instructions and a working clip link.
The timer appears at the intended interval without dominating chat.

If the menu is empty, confirm that the Windows client is online and at least one action is enabled. If you have not set up ControlPlay yet, create an account, install the client, activate ControlPlay as Overlay 1 and repeat the test.
