InstructBot and ControlPlay answer the same wish: your Twitch chat triggers real keyboard and mouse input in your game. The technical routes differ at the most fundamental level. InstructBot delivers input through software on the streaming PC; ControlPlay sends input through a physical USB device. This comparison explains what that difference means in practice, and where each tool's documented workflow fits.

InstructBot according to its official documentation
InstructBot is a Windows desktop app driven by commands. Its Input command documents key input with modifiers, mouse buttons, absolute and relative cursor movement, scroll and timed steps, sent to an application. Applications scope input per game: commands only fire while the target window is active, and relative mouse movement is calibrated per game.
Triggers are broad by design: viewers use prefixed chat commands, and integrations document Cheers, channel point rewards, subscriptions, follows and raids as sources, plus StreamElements, Streamlabs and TipeeeStream. The command documentation covers global and per-user cooldowns, and a "uses" system in which viewers collect and gift command uses.
Two documented details matter for expectations. First, InstructBot notes that Twitch does not report whether a channel point redemption completed, so a cooldown-blocked redemption grants a deferred use instead of returning the points. Second, the docs do not name the underlying input mechanism; anti-cheat topics are not covered in its documentation. Treat both as documentation facts, not product judgments.

How ControlPlay differs
A ControlPlay game action ends in hardware: the ControlPlay USB device, recognized by Windows as a standard keyboard and mouse, sends the mapped input. The software does not inject input events into the game, does not read or write game memory and does not modify game files. That is a description of the mechanism, not a claim about what any anti-cheat system permits; the safety FAQ covers that question honestly.
Viewers pick actions in the ControlPlay Twitch Extension and trigger them with available Coins, non-transferable action credits with no cash value. Preconfigured profiles for many popular PC titles provide starting points, and the macro editor builds custom actions for everything else. Optional Channel Points rewards convert channel-specific points into Coins at your configured rate; this route creates no revenue and no 80/20 allocation. On eligible Affiliate and Partner channels, viewers can confirm permitted Bits interactions or selected Coin packages, and Twitch's current Bits in Extensions allocation is generally 80% of one US cent per used Bit for the streamer and 20% for the Extension developer; Twitch controls and can change those terms.
Every action carries its own Coin amount, cooldown and limits. The focus guard blocks input when the game window is not active, DND mode hides everything not marked safe, viewer timeouts work from the OBS dock, and the emergency stop releases all held inputs. An action that never executed, for example because the focus guard blocked it, is refunded automatically.

InstructBot's documentation does not cover per-viewer wallets, moderator approval queues or refund handling; treat that as absence of documentation rather than a claim about the product.
Software input or USB device: does it matter?
Mechanically, yes: InstructBot generates input in software on the PC, while ControlPlay's input comes from a USB device the PC recognizes as a standard HID keyboard and mouse. What that difference means in a specific game is decided by the publisher, its terms and the anti-cheat service in use, not by either vendor. Neither InstructBot's documentation nor ControlPlay makes anti-cheat promises, and no allow-list from any anti-cheat vendor is known.
